Contraband
Interdiction
This course is taught
by a veteran interdiction officer, Detective Corporal
William Gifford of the Collier County Sheriff’s
Department (Naples, Florida). Detective Gifford is a
member of the Collier County Sheriff’s Department
Narcotics Division. This course is designed to provide
the patrol officer with the knowledge and the skills to
identify vehicles and individuals transporting illegal
contraband (illegal narcotics, weapons, drug money,
etc.). Detective Gifford will utilize video and
photographs from his own contraband arrests to
re-enforce the class lecture. Course lecture will
include: safe traffic stop procedures, visual and verbal
indicators, interview techniques, hidden compartments,
how to properly search a vehicle, use of back up
officers, and use of canine officers. Detective Gifford
will also discuss case law and legal aspects. Detective
Gifford is a former Indiana Deputy Town Marshal. This is
an 8-hour course.
